Renagade The Rex Rider Epilogue

Chap 20.
Epilogue~

After several minutes of dodging trees in the forest, Fafnir was still running and beginning to rasp, I could feel her pulse racing beneath my wrists and her agitated emotions as she nearly tripped over a large root, 'Fafnir… stop! Slow down, you'll hurt yourself!' I said firmly, 'It's ok… they're gone!' I added.
Fafnir slowly stumbled to a stop, panting heavily and almost immediately collapsing to the ground next to a large rock, her breathing rattled hard in her chest; I slumped off her back resting on my knees, my arm still slung over her neck.
I closed my eyes and allowed myself to catch my breath, listening to the rasping dinosaur for several minutes before I began giggling almost hysterically, "We made it…" I said aloud, "We made it out Faf… we made it!"
Fafnir growled shallowly and I felt her thoughts slowly calm down as she passed out from exhaustion; I remained awake both to keep an eye out and just wanting to absorb all that had happened, my body soon began to register the toll of injuries I had sustained, my arm was throbbing painfully as I rested my opposite hand over the wound.  
I closed my eyes for a long while… when I reopened them I realized the sky had gone from midnight blue to an increasingly lightening shade of purple; I blinked and struggled to stand, "Fafnir! Fafnir wake up!" I said loudly patting Fafnir's neck, to which she jumped and snarled loudly as she stood up.
*Go away!!* She snarled threateningly into the dark.
"It's ok Faf. It's ok!" I said patting her neck, wincing at every move I made, "Come on! You want to see this." I said smiling and urging her towards a gap in the trees. I could feel her confused and nervous emotions as I urged her on.
'Look.' I thought to her as we exited to a gap in the thinning forest, revealing the sky beyond.
I saw Fafnir's eyes widen and her body tense and then begin shivering excitedly as the sun peeked over the first trees in the distance; her mind racing to find words and failing in her rising excitement as she saw the world for the first time in her life, giving a restrained roar as she watched the orb rise farther. Only when the first rays touch our skin did she begin leaping despite her injuries roaring and thinking loudly, *THE SUN!!!! IT'S THE SUN!!!!!*
I smiled as I pushed my hat back and finally sat down beneath the a tree to rest as I watched her roll around in the grass, wallowing in the light and listened to her repeat the word like she would never be able to enough, *The sun!!!*

When we were finally able to walk again, we searched for the remaining anthropoids… but could not find hide nor hair of any of them; we never saw them again after that night we escaped, and Fafnir and I quickly evacuated the area and headed to the east, using hard roads and rivers in attempts to erase our trails… But Gernero wasn't likely to give up on us that easily…  Fafnir and I soon found ourselves perfecting a life of hiding and evading as Gernero and his men continued to pursue our capture in the weeks that followed. Benson appeared only once more, and I never saw him again afterwards and I had soon thereafter assumed him dead.
After weeks of relentless pursuit, and seeing no other way to stop their unending attempts to capture us, we tried to find some way to reveal what he was doing to people… for several weeks that became months we tried fervently to reveal him...
Until of course…………
that incident in 2012…..
